The best dental crowns are the ones that fit nicely in your mouth. In addition, the color has to blend with the rest of your teeth. Remember that a dental crown is a permanent fixture in your mouth. Therefore, there cannot be any weakness in the crown. It has to be very strong. Gilbert dentist Fotolia_160167_XS.jpg

This is why I spend considerable time with each crown prior to installing it. It may take days for our lab team to complete the crown. The ultimate aim is to ensure your crown won't crumble after a few months. It should last years and years.

However, the permanent crown doesn't go in straight away. First, I need to make sure the tooth is cleaned of jagged edges, chips and stains. As I do, I will probably cut away bits of the tooth's protective covering, or enamel. With some enamel gone, your tooth is now vulnerable to the elements, especially germs. You risk getting plaque on your tooth so we need to have a contingency plan.

I'm talking about temporary dental crowns. Visit our Gilbert dental office because we have some good quality temporary dental crowns that we recommend. I would oversee the preparation of these temporary crowns along with one of my trusted technicians.

First I make an impression of the prepped tooth and the tooth directly opposite it. We do this to ensure both crowns are at the same height. We would never want to prevent you from enjoying your favorite foods. I will make the temporary crowns as accurate as possible, giving you the power to chew with confidence.

The next step is to pour the material into the mold, providing a temporary dental crown that measures up perfectly to the shape of your teeth. The next stage is to get some dental cement that is strong but at the same time simple to remove. We use this to affix the temporary dental crown on to the tooth.

While I did say you can eat with confidence, I would suggest avoiding crunchy vegetables and fruits. I know it is difficult but you should also avoid those heavy meats such as steak or baby back ribs while wearing a temporary crown. A loose temporary crown is the last thing you want. Also, the protection it gives you is not as effective as that provided by a permanent crown.
