Having Discomfort After Gilbert Dental Crown Placement
When you have some discomfort after dental crown placement, it is not uncommon. The operated tooth is recovering from the loss of enamel.
Taking away enamel is something that cannot be helped. When I put on a new dental crown, much of the enamel has to go. Indeed, I file away most of it. Possibly even all. Your tooth nerves will feel the pinch and will react to friction, pressure and temperature changes. This is the reason you feel that sharp tingling feeling after the new dental crown is installed. This shouldn't last longer than two days, though.
Another post-procedure problem is that the crown may be taller than you want. The technician assigned to the task would have gone wrong in adhering to my instructions. There are two ways to fix it. File down the crown, or have the dental technician do a repeat performance on what is needed.
Then again, it might just be that the crown doesn't fit, period. The crown's hollow, inner part is out of sync with what we originally wanted. Also, it may not fit well with the diameter of the base part of the tooth root.
This can easily be corrected, depending on the make-up of the crown. If it is a gold dental crown, or a combination of gold and porcelain, we are able to fix it quite quickly. A characteristic of gold is that it is relatively soft. We can shape it easily so there is no problem. Pure porcelain crowns, though, won't be that easy. When using these, then there may be other complications when it's time for the lab technicians to do the modifications.
